The Pico de Orizaba spider inventory pages include 1,142 images for 99 morphospecies of Araneomorphae spiders and 7 morphospecies of pseudoscorpions. Only six spider families of the 29 collected in this oak forest inventory are presented, the separation and imaging of most specimens still a work in progress.
We collected approximately 60,000 adult spiders from two oak forests separated by 15 kms. Inside each forest two one hectare plots were established visited three times a year from 2012 to 2014. Sampling protocols included six methods divided by hours during day and night. Collecting methods included 'beating', 'cryptic' and pitfall traps; 'looking up' and 'looking down' were combined in 'vegetation' because of the steep slope were the plots were established. In addition leaf litter was processed with 24 Berlese funnels of 45 cm in diameter per plot and 30 pitfall traps left for six active days. For more information about these methods and sampling protocol go to the references at the Inventories Home Page.
